Bad Bunny vs Bruno Mars vs Hans Zimmer - Loudness WAR or NOT? (Dynamics in Audio Mastering)
In this video, I do a comparison of loudness of popular songs from Bad Bunny (Trap), Bruno Mars (Pop), Bring Me The Horizon (Rock) and Hans Zimmer (Cinematic soundtrack). We check each song's maximum LUFS measurement captured by the Izotope Ozone Mastering plugin and compare. Are mastering engineers still in Loudness War or prefer dynamics??

Why Mixing Electric Guitars with DISTORTION is a Pain!

    Thanks my friend for this video!!!!!The most new tracks are so loud with gain at 98-99, clipping and overcompressed, also they make normalizing and cut the peaks!!!! Spotify also makes overcompression in my opinion. I stopped my premium subscription and I listen free at youtube music now. The other disadvantage is that many songs tend to be lofi like Taylor Swift Evermore, Midnights and her re-recordings. Also at Billie Eilish songs I can't hear higher frequencies. Here in Greece they follow these bad standards on mastering the new greek songs, and old "remastered" recordings! Same with vinyl re-releases of famous Greek albums, they are so loud and overcompressed, are far from the sound of original recordings.

    If anyone can help me understand this process please feel free to answer me. How could I use a digital console such as a behringer wing in a setup like this? Using the onboard processing for individual channels while sending some channels to reverbs or delays within ProTools? I wouldn't need any interfaces because it would be a USB to USB connection. What's confusing to me is the channels are being sent through your interface then to the console then back to the daw.

    • @aidanbrown2529
      @aidanbrown2529 Рік тому

      You would need an interface. The connection of something like a behringer mixer will not allow you to route out of pro tools into each track of your mixer. in the most basic terms you need a interface with multiple outputs so you can send a track in pro tools to any of those outputs, then send that output to the input of your mixer. Once you do that the output of the track will run to that output on the interface then into the track on the mixer where you mix it and then record it back into the computer. its very weird and Im still not 100% sure how to do it.

      I had the same issue at first. I almost bought the wing, but got a Behringer X32 instead. I run Studio One with it and now I have them in sync. And can do a mix, either in the daw or on the console and then can send everything back into the DAW as a print track... I can use Behringer effects or software plugins. It shouldn't matter, and you don't need an additional interface....

    Hi George. I have an SSL AWS 916. I don't know very well how to route the physical knobs Fx1 to Fx4 to the returns to use plugins. If I have used hardware reverbs and through my patch of connections I can use it, but with plugin I was not able. You can help? How do you do it? Do you also patch to get to use the plugs from the knobs on the analog console? Thanks you so much...!

    • @GeorgeGoire
      @GeorgeGoire 2 роки тому

      Hey, I route my FX sends to inputs in my Avid HD I/O converters. I then make AUX channels in Pro Tools that have the reverb plugin 100% wet and use the inputs I selected for FX from my converters. Then I route the output of the reverb AUX channels to "ST Return 4" in my console so they are added back to the analog mix. There will be latency as there is one roundtrip of AD/DA conversion, but it works great for me since that becomes like a pre-delay on my reverb signal.

    i was I little bit confuse how you do it with the sends. So, tracks go to ssl and come back to PT to the print track. But with the Fx, they have to wait for the ssl sound comes back, and then you rout to ssl 31-32. So, Fx wait four the track then goes to ssl, then goes to print? You don't have problems with latency with the Fx?

    • @PokeMartinez
      @PokeMartinez 2 роки тому

      By the way, nice video, would like to see more of this kind. Routing stuff and mixing analog. Thanks and good luck

    • @GeorgeGoire
      @GeorgeGoire 2 роки тому

      Great observation! Yes, it does have latency due to a round-trip AD/DA conversion. The lower the buffer setting in PT, the lower this latency becomes. For me, it’s not an issue to have latency since I use these FX for reverbs only. The cool thing about this small latency is that it acts as a reverb “pre-delay” which I always use anyways. So I get a natural pre-delay on my reverbs from the latency and it works out great! Thanks!

    Good video as always buddy but can I just confirm that u were showing the LUFS for the loudest section of the track and not the overall integrated loudness? As a track with quite intro, bridge etc can have the loudest section as much as -6LUFS but end up having an integrated of -10 or even -12LUFS? Which is what the digital platforms calculate. share your thoughts please 🙏🏾 also a few quite section in the arrangement is a good way to foul the digital platforms to achieve louder sections if needs be 🤣 but dynamic before loudness always 💪🏿

    • @GeorgeGoire
      @GeorgeGoire 2 роки тому

      That’s correct. In my mixes, I usually check the loudest part to make sure loudness is not out of control. If I am peaking at -7 LUFS, then I am pretty comfortable with the rest of the mix knowing that it has room to breath. But you are right, it’s the integrated what platforms use. I mostly care about the loudest parts since that is what could cause clipping and distortion when the song is converted to formats from Apple and other streaming services.
